Celebrating 40 years of Diplomatic Relations
Find out how to join in our special cultural programme to mark 40 years of diplomatic relations between Ireland and Mexico.
Ireland and Mexico first opened diplomatic relations on the 10th of January 1974 but the friendship between the two countries goes back far further. As well as the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, 2015 will also see the 400th anniversary of the birth of William Lamport (Guillén de Lombardo), an Irish-born adventurer who came to live in Mexico, becoming a precursor for the Mexican independence movement. Every schoolchild in Mexico also knows about the Batallón de San Patricio, the Irish soldiers who fought for Mexico in the war of 1846-1848
2015 will see a special programme of Irish culture in Mexico to mark this important anniversary and to celebrate this friendship with events to take place in States across Mexico. We hope you will be able to join us as we celebrate Irish theatre, arts, literature, film, design, music and much, much more.
More details about the special programme will be appearing here shortly. Make sure to contact us to receive notifications about upcoming events or you can also follow us on twitter.
