Exhibition on the Life and Works of WB Yeats to tour Scotland

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, through the Consulate General of Ireland in Edinburgh, is displaying an exhibition on the life and works of the Irish poet WB Yeats throughout Scotland.

2015 is the 150th anniversary of the great poet’s birth, and this exhibition is just one item in a diverse programme of activities to mark the occasion, in Ireland, Britain, and across the world. Read more about the Yeats2015 Initiative, or by following Yeats2015 on Twitter.

The exhibition, which consists of 13 panels telling the story of Yeats’ life and work, was curated recently using material from the award-winning Yeats exhibition currently on display in the National Library of Ireland in Dublin and developed from that library’s collections. An interactive version of that exhibition can be viewed on NLI’s website.

The exhibition has been displayed at the University of Edinburgh, where Minister Flanagan launched its tour of Scotland, and also at the BT Murrayfield Stadium during the Consulate’s National Day reception.

It visited St Andrews Town Hall and Byre Theatre in connection with March’s StAnza Poetry Festival, and in April the exhibition stood at the University of Glasgow, in Govanhill Neighbourhood Centre, and City of Glasgow College.

It is on display at Edinburgh Central Library from 5-26 May, and Ambassador Dan Mulhall will deliver a speech about the life and works of Yeats in that venue on 22 May. All are welcome to this event; please register to attend.

The exhibition’s final stop in Scotland will be at Aberdeen’s May Festival from 29-31 May.
