In 2016 the Irish Community & Friends of Ireland around the world are coming together to mark the Centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, the seminal event in Ireland's path to independence. As part of this global series, the Consulate General has worked with the local community to arrange a number of Easter Rising-related events in both Hong Kong and Macau. On Monday, 21 March, a special concert in Wah Yan College, home to the Irish Jesuits since 1926, will bring together local, Irish and expatriate musicians, dancers & readers, in addition to a number of visiting performers including Greg Harrington (violinist), Irishtown (traditional Irish music group) and Marita Conlon McKenna (author). The event will be opened by the choirs of both Wah Yan Colleges. Ahead of the concert, there will be a reception in the school hall, where guests can view an exhibition on 1916 and its legacy. Places for this event are strictly limited and registration is required.
