Monuments in Brazil Greened for St Patrick's Day

Monuments in five Brazilian cities turned green to celebrate St Patrick's Day 2016.

As part of Tourism Ireland's Global Greening campaign, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Manuas and Salvador celebrated St Patrick's Day by Greening iconic monuments and landmarks.

Continuing the strong partnership with the office of the Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro, the monument to Christ the Redeemer was illuminated in Green once again. Consul General Sharon Lennon and Deputy Consul General Ciara Gilvarry battled a wet and windy night to mark the 6th annual Greening of this iconic landmark.

In addition, the famous Arches of Lapa and the new Ponte Pereira Passos were lit up in Green for the first time to mark St Patrick's Day. To celebrate the hosting of the Rio2016 Summer Olympic Games, Cariocas Arenas were also illuminated.

Continuing the partnership between the Consulate General and the office of the Mayor of Sao Paulo, and a new partnership with TV Globo, six landmarks in São Paulo were illuminated:

*Monumento ás Bandeiras
*Ponte das Bandeiras
*TV Globo Towers in Jardins and Berrini
