How can I get an emergency passport?

In cases of genuine emergency, the Consulate can produce emergency passports which are non-biometric and are of limited validity. An additional fee does apply.

Emergency passports can only be issued in cases of genuine, urgent international travel and cannot be issued for holiday or identification purposes. If you are required to travel urgently and your current passport is out of date or does not have a full 6 months validity on it, please contact the Consulate to discuss the options available. Proof of planned international travel will be sought prior to the issuance of any emergency passport.

Please note that some jurisdictions do not permit entry to holders of non-biometric passports. This includes countries where holders of full Irish passports would not normally need a visa such as the United States or the United Arab Emirates. If you are required to travel urgently to a country other than Ireland, we strongly advise you to check with the Embassy or Consulate of that country if you will be allowed entry. You may be required to apply for a visa.
