When should I apply for a new passport?

You should always have a valid passport when you live in a foreign country. Furthermore many countries and airlines in this part of the world insist on six months of validity on your passport before letting you travel. Accordingly you should consider renewing your passport when it reaches its final year of validity or, failing that, at least three months before you intend to travel if it has expired.
