National Folk Festival - Journey of a Nation Rising
Easter Rising - Journey of A Nation Rising
National Folk Festival
Canberra
24 - 28 March 2016
The National Folk Festival, taking place every year over the Easter weekend in Canberra, will this year remember the 1916 Rising and celebrate the Ireland of today with a programme of events over the 5 days of the Festival.
Under the theme of remembrance, an illustrated 60 minute historical presentation on the significance of the 1916 Easter Rising featuring music, narrative and a native Irish Speaker will be staged twice over the Easter weekend.
A celebration of Ireland today featuring dance, music and song will see four individual concerts, one each day of the Easter weekend, with each concert reflecting one of the 4 Provinces of Ireland. This musical journey will culminate with a Gala Concert in the Festival’s 3,000 seat venue on Easter Monday afternoon.
This concert will be headlined by The Rambling Boys, a group of amazing Irish musicians, all with successful individual careers in various Irish traditional groups.
The Embassy of Ireland is delighted to be able to support this unique event in the spirit of the 'Remember' and 'Celebrate' themes of Ireland 2016.
