Ireland-Greece Relations

Relations between Greece and Ireland are deep and broad. The Embassy is at the nexus of those relationships.

The relationship between Ireland and Greece is ancient. The Celtic people were known to ancient Greeks and the works of classical Greek civilisation have been known in Ireland for many centuries. The giants of Irish literature: Oscar Wilde, W.B. Yeats, James Joyce, Samuel Beckett and others, were all deeply influenced by Greek culture. In the modern era, we have enjoyed close fraternal relations in a broad range of fields, including politics, economics, trade, culture, philosophy and academia.

Over the last number of years we have seen our relationship deepen and intensify as we worked together to move Europe forward, particularly during our common membership of the trio Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2013/14.

The Irish Government is determined to build on our positive relationship and grow the links between our countries. We are always looking for new exchanges and ways of building mutual understanding.

Our countries, working together, can deepen and expand existing links while growing new avenues of contact between our peoples.
