Set the Stage for Sziget 2017 - Embassy Travel Tips
Sziget Festival is one of Europe’s biggest music festival and the 25th edition takes place from 9 – 16 August on Óbudai Island in Budapest. Last year Sziget attracted 496,000 festival goers, including over 2,000 Irish. We have some travel tips to help you enjoy Sziget and stay safe.
Before you go …
1. PASSPORT and PASSPORT CARD
Make a copy of your passport and email it to yourself and a family member at home, in case it gets lost or stolen and you need replacement travel documents. A copy of another photo ID is also useful to have.
Apply for the new Irish Passport Card. This is valid for travel within Europe and can fit in your wallet, allowing you to leave your passport in a safe place.
You will need your ID/passport to gain entry to Sziget. Keep it in a secure and safe place and make use of the on-site lockers.
2. EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD
Bring your European Health Insurance Card with you and if you don’t have one apply now.
3. INSURANCE
We strongly recommend that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance.
When you get there…
4. FOLLOW THE RULES
Familiarise yourself with the local laws and customs. Avoid unnecessary risks – steer clear of trouble, drink responsibly, and behave respectfully when engaging with local authorities, including police and Sziget festival security.
Check the festival website for info on what you can bring in, and what you should leave at home.
Be vigilant and stick with friends or a group where possible.
5. CONTACT
Did you know that you can Roam Like at Home since 15 June 2017? No excuses not to keep in contact with family and friends!
Call, text or post on social media, and ensure your loved ones have information about your itinerary and travel plans. Check with your provider about limits on data usage.
6. SUN SMART
Budapest can be very hot in August. Use sun cream, wear a hat, drink plenty of water, and seek out shade where possible.
