2015 has been a very challenging year, as the persistence of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone and Liberia has put a strain on everybody in the two countries.
Irish Aid supports Amputee Football Club in Sierra Leone

In December 2015, the Salone Flying Stars, an Amputee Football Club, received funding from Irish Aid's micro project fund to set up a tailoring centre and provide crucial livelihood skills training to their members.

End of Ebola Outbreak Declared in Sierra Leone

Earlier this month the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone. The news was received with a mixture of joy and grief by the people of Sierra Leone – joy that this devastating chapter had finally concluded and grief for the 3,589 people who had lost their lives. The President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma, led a midnight countdown at the National Ebola Response Centre on 7 November 2015 to mark the occasion.

Ireland’s contribution to improve first aid response

In August and September 2015, over 150 staff members of the Irish Embassy and British High Commission benefited from three days’ training on CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) in Freetown, Sierra Leone to become First Aid responders.
