Irish film evening #Ireland2016, Kinoteka
Throughout this year Ireland is remembering the Easter Rising of 1916, which led to establishment of an independent Irish state. As part of a series of events marking this anniversary, the Embassy of Ireland is organising a film evening on Wednesday, 28 September, in Kinoteka.
The evening will begin at 18:00 with a programme of short films. Commissioned by the Irish Film Board, “After ‘16” is a set of nine shorts by various directors, inspired by the subject of 1916 and what it has left in its wake. The programme includes fiction and non-fiction, live-action and animation, contemporary and period pieces.
Following a short intermission, at 21:00 “The Plough and the Stars” directed by John Ford, one of the most important and influential film-makers of his generation, will be shown. Based on the play of the same name by Seán O’Casey, the film examines how the Rising impacted on the people in 1916, focusing on the clash between a young married couple over the husband’s involvement with the Irish Citizen Army.
