Global Irish Summer Camp
The Global Irish Summer Camp was a pilot initiative providing an opportunity for 15-17 year old US students of Irish descent to strengthen their links with Ireland through a short immersive visit of 2-3 weeks in duration which took place last summer. The Pilot Summer Camp programme was supported by the Emigrant Support Programme and administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The expenditure on the Programme in 2016 was €100,000.
As set out in Ireland’s Diaspora Policy, a review is taking place this year on diaspora policy and pilot initiatives, including on the Summer Camp programme. Decisions on future initiatives will be made pending the results of appraisals made during the review process which will include input from diaspora representatives at the Global Irish Civic Forum in May. As a result, the Global Irish Summer Camp is not taking place in 2017.
