Ending global poverty and hunger is a cornerstone of Ireland’s foreign policy. Our Mission promotes Ireland’s development priorities at the UN.

Defining the Post-2015 Development agenda

Over the last 15 years, developing countries and their development partners have sought to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals. As the timeframe for these goals draws to an end, Ireland is leading negotiations at the UN on a new universal global development agenda including a set of goals and targets to end extreme poverty and promote sustainable development.

Cooperating with UN Agencies

Organisations such as UNDP or UNFPA channel financial contributions from member states (including Ireland) to some of the poorest countries in the world. Irish officials participate in committees which oversee the strategy, spending and effectiveness of these organisations. We also engage in processes where member states set international standards for these organisations such as on promoting food and nutrition security or the rule of law.

Responding to Humanitarian Emergencies

Ireland participates in different working groups and committees which seek to ensure that humanitarian assistance is provided in a timely and effective manner to major humanitarian crises around the world. This includes assistance from Ireland.
