Responding to humanitarian emergencies
A significant proportion of Ireland’s response to international humanitarian emergencies is channelled through the UN system.
A significant proportion of Ireland’s response to international humanitarian emergencies is channelled through the UN system, via bodies such as UNICEF and the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).
The CERF allows the UN to react immediately when a disaster strikes by making funding available to eligible agencies for life-saving activities.
Ireland supports an active role for all UN partners in preventing and responding to humanitarian emergencies. For example, in our partnership with UN Women, we seek to ensure that women and girls are given targeted support because of their heightened vulnerability in crisis situations.
Our mission also participates actively in a donor support group for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs as well as a humanitarian liaison working group.
