Consul General Claire McCarthy made a flying visit to New Orleans in January to attend the formal unveiling of the Forging Strength sculptures at Hibernian Memorial Park.
The latest installations are a vibrant addition to the community park which serves as a legacy to the Irish who built the New Basin Canal.
While in New Orleans, she also visited the Irish Cultural Center of New Orleans, bought some Taytos at the Muggivan School of Irish Dancing Jazz Feis and had a welcome pit-stop at Finn McCools.
Claire enjoyed meeting so many members of the Irish community including the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.
She has also been mentioning the New Orleans food scene quite a lot! King Cake, Beignets and Antoine’s Pommes de Terre Souffles to name but a few of the specialities she tried.
Vice Consul Paul Breen will represent the Consulate at the New Orleans St. Patrick’s Day parades and both Claire and Paul are looking forward to bringing the Blazing a Trail exhibition to the Big Easy later this year.
