Mayors of Austin and Limerick Sign Agreement for Future Collaboration

Steve Adler, Mayor of the City of Austin and Councillor James Collins, Mayor of Limerick City and County Council sign a memorandum of understanding which will aim to further strengthen links between the two cities.
The Consulate General of Ireland welcomed a delegation from Limerick City and County Council to Austin on 16-18 January, 2019 for a formal signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two cities.
The delegation was led by Councillor James Collins, Mayor of Limerick City and County Council and included representatives from the University of Limerick, Limerick Institute of Technology, Limerick Chamber of Commerce, Limerick Enterprise Development Partnership and the Shannon Group. The group was also joined by senior business and community leaders from Limerick.
During the 3-day programme, Mayor Collins met with Steve Adler, Mayor of the City of Austin, to sign the memorandum of understanding, which will aim to further strengthen the links between Limerick and Austin in the areas of business, education and culture.
The delegation also visited the Texas State Capitol, where Texas House Representative Jim Murphy and Texas Senator Paul Bettencourt introduced resolutions to acknowledge the historic and economic ties between Ireland and Texas.
The group from Limerick also met with members of the Irish community in Austin for a special event organised by the Celtic Cowboys GAA Club featuring members of the All-Ireland winning Limerick hurling team with the Liam MacCarthy Cup.
