Book Launch: The Vanishing World of the Islandman: Narrative and Nostalgia

On Wednesday 19 February 2020, the Consulate General of Ireland was honoured to host the launch of ‘The Vanishing World of the Islandman: Narrative and Nostalgia’ written by Professor Máiréad Nic Craith MRIA.

The launch event explored the history of the Blasket Islands and the portrayal, nostalgia and challenges of Island life. Máiréad also discussed the extraordinary global reception of the Irish-language memoir An tOileánach, written by Tomás Ó Criomhthain. To accompany the talk, there was some beautiful music on the fiddle from Ireland and Scotland.

Máiréad is an acclaimed Irish academic and is currently the Chair of Cultural Heritage and Anthropological Studies at Herriot Watt University Edinburgh.
