Europe at a Crossroads: German and Irish Reflections on Peace, and Our Shared European Future
Event
21 November 2022 - 21 November 2022Venue: University Library of Marburg, Deutschhausstraße 9, 35032 Marburg,
Time: 17:00 - 19:00
Ireland was part of the first wave of enlargement of the European Communities in 1973. Since then, another 18 states have acceded to the Union, significantly expanding the geographic presence and geopolitical interests of the EU. In fact, enlargement has arguably been the single biggest policy success of the Union in its 70 years of existence.
Another significant achievement of the EU has been bringing greater unity and peace amongst nations in Europe. The Northern Ireland Peace Process is one such example. As Ireland marks 50 years of EU membership, and as Europe grapples with a war on its borders, it is an opportune time to reflect on the role of the EU in building peace, prosperity and forward momentum, asking how we in Germany and Ireland might understand the future of Europe?
After the presentation we invite you to a reception.
