Roles and Responsibilities
In light of the concerns surrounding the spread of Covid-19, the Embassy had to suspend the recruitment process for the Administration & Consular Officer position. In order to fill this position by summer 2020 the Embassy is now re-advertising this vacancy and welcomes applications from interested candidates.
The Administration & Consular Officer will work primarily in the Administrative Unit of the Embassy, which is responsible for the smooth running of the Chancery. The position will also involve work with the Consular and Irish Abroad Unit of the Embassy, which is responsible for the provision of consular services and assistance to Irish citizens and visa applicants.
The new officer will work closely with another part time Administrative and Consular Officer.
Responsibilities will include general administrative duties and office tasks, building management, HR administration. ICT and equipment management and contract management. In addition, the officer will provide support to the consular team including on passport and visa processing.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with a proven capacity to multi-task in a busy and demanding environment. The successful candidate will work as part of a very busy and flexible Embassy team and will have significant opportunities to develop their skills and gain hands-on experience in these areas. The position will also involve undertaking occasional out of hours duty (up to twice a year).
To be eligible the following qualification and competences are required:
- A third level qualification in a relevant area or a high level of work experience in a relevant area.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in German and English. The candidate should be a native speaker of German or English, have a minimum of C1 in the other language. In some cases, applicants may be telephoned to establish language proficiency.
- Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- A flexible attitude, good judgement and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- The ability to work well under pressure while ensuring accuracy and attention to detail;
- A high level of discretion, commitment and reliability.

Contract details
Starting date: | Summer 2020 |
Contract duration: | One year temporary fixed term contract. Contract extension may be possible. |
Working hours: | Part-time (17.5 hours – with exact days and times to be negotiated) with occasional additional attendance outside of hours. Out of hours duty service on two occasions during the year compensated by additional leave. |
Salary: | €15,074 gross per year |
Annual Leave: | 50% of Full Time allocation of 24 days annual leave in a calendar year |
Probationary period: | 6 months |
Security Clearance
Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment. Enquiries may also be made with the police force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If unsuccessful, this information will be destroyed. If the applicant subsequently comes under consideration for another position, they will be required to supply this information again.
