Sziget Festival is one of Europe’s biggest music festival taking place from 7 – 13 August on Óbudai Island in Budapest.
If you plan on attending Sziget this year, we have some travel tips to help you enjoy the festival and stay safe.
Before you go …
HEALTH and TRAVEL INSURANCE
Bring your European Health Insurance Card with you and if you don’t have one apply now .
We also strongly recommend that you buy comprehensive travel insurance.
PASSPORT and PASSPORT CARD
Make a copy of your passport and email it to yourself and a family member at home, in case it gets lost or stolen and you need replacement travel documents. A copy of another photo ID is also useful to have.
Apply for an Irish Passport Card. You can us this to travel within the EU and EEA and it fits in your wallet, meaning you can keep your passport safe!
You will need photo ID/passport to get into Sziget. Keep it in a secure and safe place and use the on-site lockers.
LOST PASSPORT?
Report it as missing to the on-site police, check with lost & found as passports are often handed in. Check with your airline as they may allow you to travel with another form of ID and a police report. If not, the Embassy can issue you with an Emergency Travel Certificate. You will need:
- 4 photos
- Police report
- Proof of ID/Copy of lost passport/Copy of Birth Certificate
- Return Travel Details
- 22,000 HUF in cash

When you get there…
FOLLOW THE RULES
Familiarise yourself with the local laws and customs. Avoid unnecessary risks – steer clear of trouble, drink responsibly, and behave respectfully when dealing with local authorities, including police and Sziget festival security.
Check the festival website for info on what you can bring in, and what you should leave at home.
Be vigilant and stick with friends or a group where possible.
STAY CONNECTED
Thanks to the EU, you can “Roam like at Home” so no excuses not to keep in contact with family and friends!
Call, text or post on social media, and ensure your loved ones have information about your itinerary and travel plans. Check with your provider about limits on data usage.

SUN SMART
Budapest is very hot in August. Use sun cream, wear a hat, drink plenty of water, and seek out shade where possible.
