The Embassy is recruiting for the position of Consular Officer. This key position requires excellent attention to detail, reliability, resilience and a commitment to excellent customer service. The role will involve the provision of world-class consular services to Irish citizens in New Zealand and a number of Pacific Islands. Please note however that the specific role profile of the successful candidate will be determined based on the business needs of the Embassy and may change as required. Flexibility and willingness to adapt are therefore essential.
Role:
- Consular duties such as public counter assistance, responding to queries by phone and email, providing consular assistance to Irish nationals in emergency situations;
- Liaising with Embassies in the region, Department of Foreign Affairs headquarters, other Irish government departments/agencies and with New Zealand-based organisations in delivery of responsibilities;
- Supporting the Embassy’s ongoing work with the Irish Community networks in Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific Islands;
- Assistance in all other areas of the Embassy’s work as required.
Essential requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- Fluent spoken and written English
- A minimum of five years of administration experience, and two years of experience of providing customer service;
Desirable requirements:
- Irish, Te Reo and/or Pacific languages ability
- Consular role experience
Community building or volunteer experience in the community
Terms and conditions of employment:
- The successful candidates will be hired on a fixed term contractual basis and will be based in the Embassy of Ireland, Wellington.
- Salary details will be made available on request. Salaries are paid direct to a bank account and therefore the successful candidate must have a bank account.

Selection Process:
- Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for interview may be undertaken based on the essential/key requirements above.
- It is planned that interviews will be held by video conferenced before Friday 10th December. The interview will include a case study exercise to enable the candidates to draw on their relevant experience.
Security Clearance for Local Staff:
Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment. Enquiries may also be made with the policy force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If unsuccessful this information will be destroyed. If the applicant subsequently comes under consideration for another position they will be required to supply this information again.
