Statement on the death of Honorary Consul of Ireland in Zimbabwe, Mr Gary Killilea

It is with great sadness that the Embassy of Ireland in Pretoria wishes to inform you of the death of the Honorary Consul of Ireland in Zimbabwe, Mr Gary Killilea.

Since his appointment in 2007, Gary represented Ireland with exceptional dignity, energy and kindness.

He was a pillar of the Irish community in Zimbabwe, helping thousands of Irish and Zimbabwean citizens.

Gary played a vital role in strengthening Irish-Zimbabwean relations and contributed much to his adopted home, including in business, construction and conservation.

He was deeply appreciated as a warm, wise and generous friend and colleague by all those who worked with him, by the Irish community, and by his consular and diplomatic friends and colleagues.

The Embassy of Ireland is deeply grateful for his service and mourns his passing.
