Contacting Embassies

The best help is often close at hand so if you have problems while you’re abroad, try talking to your local contacts, tour operator representative or hotel management. However, if you need to contact us, we’re happy to help.

Quick tips

  • Make a note of the relevant Embassy contact details before you travel.
  • Register your details with us before you go so that we can contact you in an emergency.

Contacting us when you’re abroad

If you’re involved in an emergency abroad, you can contact your nearest Irish Embassy, Consulate or Honorary Consul for help.

Contact details are available on the country-specific travel advice pages of our website.

You can also contact the Consular Assistance Unit at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin on +353 1 408 2527.

No Irish Embassy or Consulate?

In countries where Ireland does not have any formal representation, emergency consular assistance, advice and support may be sought through resident offices of other EU member states.

If you are in a non-EU state without Irish representation, then you can find out what other EU missions are in the country you are located in by visiting the Consular Protection Directive website.

Register with us before you travel

By registering your details with us, we will be able to contact you quickly if there is an unforeseen crisis like a natural disaster or if you have a family emergency while you are abroad. If necessary, we can offer assistance to you and your family.
